About The Florida Green Lodging Program

The Florida Green Lodging Program was established in 2004 by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) with the intent of recognizing and rewarding environmentally conscientious lodging facilities in the state. Through this rapidly growing program DEP encourages the lodging industry to conserve and protect Florida's natural resources. The Florida Green Lodging Program is unique in that it covers an all-inclusive list of environmental initiatives that are specific to protecting and preserving Florida's environment. For a complete list of Green Lodging requirement for the state of FL, visit the Department of Environmental Protections site at www.dep.state.fl.us/greenlodging

The forerunners of the Florida Green Lodging Program, the Designated Green Lodging establishments, have demonstrated their commitment to succeed in protecting Florida's resources while also saving money and garnering good publicity.

Ocean Waters (a Bray & Gillespie Company) owns and operates the only hotels in the Daytona Beach area that are Green Lodging Certified. The Plaza Resort joins two other sister-hotels, the Palm Plaza and the Beachside Plaza Resort with Florida Green Lodging Certification.

"We are very proud that the Plaza and our other properties are setting an industry example by going green. This is just the first step. Ocean Waters recognizes the importance of being a responsible tenant of the environment." says Tim Stockman, Vice President of Ocean Waters, "We are now exploring the possibilities of turning all of our hotels 'green'."
