He will be responsible for managing all aspects of The Plaza Resort & Spa including guest services, Magnolia’s restaurant, the Veranda Lounge, Ocean Waters Spa, sales & marketing and employee satisfaction. Van Bergen’s management style will allow The Plaza Resort & Spa to solidify its identity as the premiere resort in the Daytona Beach market.

Mr. Van Bergen most recently served as the General Manager at the Crown Plaza San Marcos Resort in Chandler, AZ. Prior to this, he has been the General Manager at a variety of hotels and full-service brands in Florida market as well as the Bahamas, Illinois, Texas and Colorado. Key accomplishments of Van Bergen include leading four properties to achieve AAA Four Diamond rating, opening two of Florida’s premier golf and private club resorts – Hammock Beach and Reunion, and named GM of the Year for Central Illinois. He has been involved in and successfully overseen multiple renovations and ownership transitions with brands such as Ginn, Crowne Plaza, Doubletree, and independent, full-service large-scale properties.

Mr Van Bergen’s experience is sure to play a vital role in the current renovations at The Plaza Resort & Spa. Future guests as well as returning past guests will be delighted with room renovations which include new bathroom vanities and shower curtains, upgraded bedding, enhanced WiFi service and 42” flat-screen televisions. Daytona Beach, FL – February 13, 2013 — The Plaza Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach Florida, the award winning Three Diamond hotel, has begun renovations. The Plaza’s new management company, Boykin Hospitality Management, intends to continue to give guests the ultimate resort experience and beyond.

Construction includes newly poured, concrete balconies allowing guests to take full advantage of the fabulous city and beach views. Construction is currently being done on the south side of the building while the newly poured balconies on the beach facing units set and cure.

The Plaza Resort & Spa is also making extensive upgrades to the interiors of each accommodation. “Guests will love the new shower curtains and bathroom vanities. While the old pedestal sinks were visually appealing, the new vanities will allow guests much more space for their toiletries,” said Bob Van Bergen, General Manager of The Plaza Resort & Spa. “Other in-room renovations include upgraded bedding and 42” flat-screen televisions.”

Mitruska, a hospitality sales and marketing executive has over two decades of experience at companies like The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. and the Four Seaons. He began his hospitality career as the Sales and Conference Services Manger for the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida. Over the years, has held a series of increasingly strategic roles in sales and marketing at a variety of world-renowned hotels and resorts. Most recently, he headed up sales for Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group for the Radisson Blu Resort, Marina & Spa St. Martin, French West Indies based in Naples, FL.
